Flower Power

Recent studies have proven that women may enjoy, but cannot actually be described as loving flowers until they enter the maternal state. The maternal state, however, is not exclusively that of having passed offspring through the vaginal canal, but may be inclusive of being a pet mommy, baby-sitter, stepmother, godmother, halfway home matron or, of course, a nun. Therefore, many mothers of all sorts—though none of the "mutha" variety—are certifiable lovers of flowers, blooms and blossoms and, as a result, are the perfect audience for the Dallas Arboretum's May Flowers. For the entire month of May, the arboretum boasts more than 80,000 blooming annuals in amazing patterns and colors. Plus, gorgeous topiaries and unusual displays (try a house covered in flowers), musical guests each day, an ice cream bar, lunch on the terrace and more (special family events Mondays, Tuesdays and weekends). It appears the April showers were well worth it. And those who need to celebrate moms earlier than the prescribed day have a perfectly beautiful destination.
