Deadly DMA

This Late Night is funereal

By Mark Donald

Deadly DMA

Makes sense that Starbucks, which serves wake-the-dead coffee, would sponsor a program about the afterlife for the after hours: the Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art series from 6 p.m. to midnight the third Friday of each month. On November 21, weary parents can get wired on triple shots of espresso as they schlep their children through of vast array of entertaining dead stuff: among them, a Day of the Dead puppet performance by Teatro's Flor Candela, a New Orleans style jazz funeral procession performed by N'Awlins Gumbo Kings, a lecture comparing the burial practices of ancient China and Egypt by UTA professor Ingrid Furniss and selected readings by Regan Adair from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Little ones are seldom concerned with their own mortality but that could all change. General admission is $10 or less; DMA members and children under 12 are free.
